I really don’t know where to start with this one.
If you looked back at old post you will see that I did a review of Textnow and how much I love it.
To be honest I was a Textfree user for quite some time until I ran into problems. More on that to come.
I’m also a regular macrumors.com participant and kept up with Derek and his post on his Textnow program. To make things short it has been heaven since installing Textnow.
Ok, so lets start with Pinger’s Textfree. I bought the 1 year license and started texting like crazy. All was well for a few weeks…then I stopped getting text. I e-mailed Pinger’s support and was shocked to see an instant reply. Well, at least that is what I thought. It was actually an automated response telling me to read the FAQs or to reply if I felt my question hadn’t been answered.
Now I understand that a lot of people don’t read the FAQs and that answers to most questions can be found there, but damn was I mad about having to jump through hoops to get my problem fixed. So I finally got my e-mail submitted to tech support at Pinger and waited and waited. I finally got a response saying that they had checked into my account and reset things to try and fix the problem. So back to texting I went, at least until I noticed that I wasn’t getting any text back from people who had said they were replying to me.
By this point Pinger had added their support forum. So I tried that. Created a nice little post explaining everything. I had a few users reply that they were having the same problem, but never a response from support. Actually it seemed like they skipped right over my post and answered others that weren’t as difficult.
Now you may ask, did you delete textfree?!
The answer is NO. I have kept it, for no other reason than I paid for a year!
To fix my problems I installed Textfree to give it a try. Actually I bought the app around Christmas of last year. Everything was great and then the servers became loaded with users around late Christmas.
I was a little frustrated thinking I was going to have Pinger type problems again. So I e-mailed support and was surprised to find a reply within a few hours. Derek had replied that the servers were overloaded and that they were performing server upgrades to fix things.
First off, the told me what was going on and second he told me what they were doing to fix the problem…….two things that Pinger has to this day failed to do.
Textnow really won my heart when I saw that users are able to connect Google Voice with Textnow.
I followed the simple instructions at the following link:
http://blog.enflick.com/?p=3
and was up and running with my googlevoice number in a matter of seconds.
From that day on I have never had a missed text.
When the Textnow server does go down, it is usually back up within a few hours if not minutes.
Now on to the new Textnow 4.0
I just installed it and must say that it is great. I only had one problem during installation and that was when I first launced the program. It was asking me to sign in and make a new account. I simply closed the program and started it again. After so, my old text were back and I was ready to go.
Sending pictures has been really smooth so far.
One thing i would like to commend Enflick on is allowing users to use their own pics as background images in the new update.
I have seen that users have asked for this for a long time, but never thought it would happen. I always saw it as a way for Enflick to make a few extra bucks by charging for premium backgrounds. To be honest if I ran Enflick I would not have included this feature in the update, but the guys at Enflick must be much nicer than I am
I also want to address the people on the ITunes store who keep saying, “THE NEW TEXTNOW WOULD BE GREAT IF THEY GAVE EVERYONE A NUMBER”
First off, all of you need to sign up for googlevoice. Second, read about it. Phone numbers are quite expensive. I love Enflick, but I don’t expect them to give away numbers for free. I’m sure there will be a charge of some sort or at least ads. Then more people will just complain about that.
So if nothing else I’ll start an Enflick google Voice invite giveaway. Hell, I think I have about 6 or so Invites sitting around.
And yes I know Pinger added numbers to the new Textfree. I even signed up to get one of the numbers. And then discovered the catch. I had a paid subscription, but in order to get a number I had to allow ads!
And about the new Textnow Icon….I love it. I voted for it!
For all those complaining, you should have voted. You had a chance!
I like it Enflick, so keep it
I would also like to drop a word about Messagenow, another program from Enflick.
My fiancee and I use this program non-stop. To date we have sent about 6000 messages to each other with this program. The thing about this program is that it hasn’t been updated in a while.
I did see that Enflick has released PingChat 2. My question now is…will messagenow be replaced by PingChat?
PingChat seems to be really nice, I just hope I get usherd in to a NO Ad version of PingChat once it goes ad supported. I mean I have been a loyal messagenow user for quite a while.
So, in conclusion….
there is no comparison.
I have tried both TextNow and Textfree and Textnow wins no questions asked!
Vist Enflick’s site below and grab the program from below as well…you won’t regret it!
